Jet Technologies has launched what it says is the first vertical form fill seal (VFFS) machine in this market capable of producing and filling block-bottom gusset bags at high speeds.

The company said the machine is well suited to high-output coffee production environments. It allows roasters to produce their own block-bottom gusset bag without purchasing the packaging as a pre-made bag. The practical design of these bags allows products and their branding to be showcased neatly, upright, and with a strong shelf presence.

Jet Technologies general manager Daniel Malki said the ability to achieve the popular block-bottom design in a cheaper and more productive way for coffee brands is exciting.

“The block-bottom design allows for improved styling of product branding, which comes at an advantage to brands wanting to stand out from others in the market,” Malki said.

According to Jet Technologies, brand-owners have traditionally needed to purchase a pre-made bag to achieve the block-bottom look, which is more expensive. And, they would have had to fill the bags by hand or with a stand-alone filler.

But now, with the new machine, which is made by Goglio, coffee brands can use high-productivity VFFS machinery to simultaneously make and fill these block-bottom gusset bags to order, and in line with demand.

The block-bottom design works uniquely to combine the functionality of a stand-up pouch with all the benefits of a side gusset bag. The block-bottom gusset bag can be ideal for packaging a wide variety of coffee products such as whole bean or ground bean coffee.

Malki said the coffee industry is very competitive, particularly in Australasia.

“Today’s roasters strive to be leaders in sustainability and innovation,” he said.

“This means they need to be able to differentiate themselves on store shelves with a stylish and functional packaging design that stands out to consumers and maintains coffee flavour and freshness.”

The Goglio VFFS machine with block-bottom capability is the only high output machine producer in the market that can help coffee brands achieve the sought-after block-bottom gusset bag design in-house, according to Jet Technologies.
