Heuft Oceania is helping beverage and packaging manufacturers strengthen product traceability with integrated inspection, code recognition and real-time data management across the filling and packaging line.

The Heuft approach is designed to provide visibility of individual containers throughout the production process – from empty bottle inspection and filling through to labelling, packing and final foreign-object detection.

At the heart of the system is continuous product tracking. Sensors determine the position of individual products with accuracy of up to 0.5mm, while a real-time ‘shift register’ follows each container through the line.

This enables manufacturers to verify that products have been inspected and that defective products identified by inspection systems are successfully rejected.

For packaging operations, the ability to connect inspection results with individual products can also provide greater control over recalls.

The company says inspection results are documented and permanently retained, allowing an affected batch to be narrowed down to the individual defective product where required, rather than unnecessarily removing larger quantities of product from the market.

The system combines unique identification codes on individual packages with Heft reflexx A.I. cameras and real-time data management. The cameras can be integrated into different Heuft inspection devices across the plant, creating a connected traceability system spanning the filling and packaging process.

This approach also extends to packaging authenticity and resource management – non-marketable packaging can be identified, tracked and rejected, while returnable containers can be monitored throughout their service life.

Manufacturers can track the container pool and control factors such as maximum fill cycles, helping manage reusable packaging more effectively.

Heuft’s smart camera technology can read and verify barcodes and 2D Data Matrix codes across primary, secondary and tertiary packaging. This allows origin, authenticity, transport and process information to be linked to specific packaging units as they move through the production line.

The system also supports serialisation and aggregation, such as scanning a pallet code to identify the location of an individual carton within the pallet and the position of a specific container inside that carton.

Behind this functionality is Heuft’s real-time data management, which securely transmits and archives information contained in packaging codes.

Production and quality data gathered during inspection and line analysis, including individual detection images from empty and full container inspections, can also be incorporated into the system.

The result is a digital audit trail that can support proof of origin, product authentication, quality documentation and detailed traceability across the packaging operation.

Whether a container is still moving along the production line, inside a carton or tray, or already packed on a pallet, Heuft’s connected systems are designed to identify its location and maintain a record of its journey.

For packaging manufacturers facing increasing demands around product safety, recall management, authentication and resource efficiency, the ability to connect inspection with real-time product tracking provides a way to turn packaging-line data into actionable traceability.
