Packing facilities in the cement, building materials, food and chemical sectors have used Haver & Boecker and Adams technology for more than two decades, applying Form-Fill-Seal (FFS) to improve product protection, cleanliness and energy use.

Introduced in 2005, Adams technology enables a fully enclosed packing process on the Roto-Packer RS, which the company says is the first and only rotary packing machine to offer this configuration. The system cuts and welds each bag shut, producing a sealed, weatherproof pack designed to reduce contamination and product loss during transport, storage and lengthy logistics processes.

Haver & Boecker and Adams say the process can use up to 50 per cent less energy per bag than traditional systems, while also reducing film consumption. The sealed format supports longer storage times and transport distances, while producing bags optimised for palletisation and reducing product loss.

The company also points to improved operational outcomes, stating the system can help maximise profits and customer satisfaction.

Through its Bespoke service, Haver & Boecker and Adams consults on bag selection and designs FFS bags with features such as deaeration channels and UFP-perforation to release air without losing product. The company says this approach protects contents, supports transport and storage, and improves the visual presentation of bags and pallets.

Mark Wehling, head of sales group minerals at Haver & Boecker and Adams, said some industries required improved packing methods to prevent contamination.

“We knew some industries including cement, building materials and pigment packing plants especially, needed a new packing option to keep their product safe and uncontaminated throughout the shipping and storage process. The development of ADAMS technology didn’t just give packing operations a highly efficient machine, it also increased the protection of their product once packing is completed. FFS bags help ensure our customers’ product is protected and uncontaminated throughout the packing and shipping process,” he said.

The company is introducing the Roto-Packer RST variant alongside the 20-year milestone.

The fully enclosed, compact Roto-Packer RS operates at 400 to 1,200 bags per hour (7–20 bags per minute) with up to 10 filling spouts. Its compact footprint is designed to allow easier positioning and reduce space on the packing line, while the enclosed housing maintains cleanliness in powder applications.

The system includes dosing units and a vibration plate for deaeration and compaction, allowing more product to be filled into smaller bags. Haver & Boecker says this contributes to packing efficiency, improved weight accuracy and longer machine life. Large access openings support interior cleaning, simplify maintenance and reduce wear.

Two filling modules are available. The RST version includes a T-Module turbine system for fine powders, supported by vibrating bottles or vacuum rods to improve deaeration. The RSL version uses an air filling module that conveys product via air pressure, with a fully ventilated base plate in the pressure chamber. Haver & Boecker and Adams say both modules use more than 50 per cent less energy than traditional filling systems.

The RS series integrates QUAT²RO AI systems, which use high-definition cameras and self-programmed algorithms. Quat2ro Bag Check verifies that the correct bag is loaded before filling begins, while Quat2ro MatEx Check monitors bags during filling and stops the system within seconds if a burst is detected, reducing safety risks and cleaning time.

Additional options include compaction detection, patented fill-level detection during bag filling, smart ventilation and glue edge detection. The system is operated via an HMI using MEC 4.0, allowing adjustments to suit individual facilities.

A redesigned, preinstalled platform is designed to reduce commissioning and assembly times and support faster delivery. On delivery, Haver & Boecker and Adams’ service team installs the system and provides operator training, with ongoing support through its global service footprint.
