ELGi Equipments Australia has launched Demand=Match, a compressed air management system designed for fixed-speed air compressors operating in dynamic industrial environments.

The system is intended to help manufacturers improve energy efficiency, operational stability and equipment reliability while retaining the simplicity of conventional fixed-speed compressor platforms. The company says the system delivers variable frequency drive (VFD)-like energy savings while maintaining the simplicity and robustness of fixed-speed machines.

Industrial facilities are increasingly under pressure to reduce energy use and improve sustainability, while many continue to rely on fixed-speed compressors that are less adaptable to fluctuating air demand. In manufacturing environments, compressed air requirements vary throughout the day depending on production schedules, machine use and shift patterns.

Conventional fixed-speed compressors typically operate at constant output regardless of demand, leading to repeated cycling between pressure limits. According to ELGi, this can result in energy waste, unstable pressure, higher wear on components and increased maintenance costs.

Demand=Match uses what ELGi describes as intelligent airflow recirculation to monitor plant pressure and regulate compressor output in line with real-time air demand. The system adjusts airflow within the compressor to align compressed air delivery with plant requirements at any given time.

The company says this reduces unnecessary cut-in and cut-out cycling and supports more stable pressure levels across compressed air networks, which can improve process consistency and plant productivity.

It also states that the system can deliver energy-saving performance comparable to VFD compressors while maintaining the durability and straightforward operation associated with fixed-speed machines.

Beyond energy use, ELGi says reduced cycling lowers mechanical stress on compressor components, which can reduce wear on motors and other parts, potentially improving uptime and reducing maintenance requirements over time.

The company adds that lower energy consumption can also reduce carbon emissions, supporting manufacturers’ sustainability targets while lowering operating costs.

ELGi says the technology is intended for use across industries including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, electronics and general manufacturing, where compressed air demand typically varies across production cycles.
