Visy has introduced an interactive virtual tour of its recycling facility, timed to coincide with Global Recycling Day (18 March), and aiming to demystify the recycling process for Australians.

The tour provides a detailed look at how materials are sorted and processed, showcasing manual, mechanical, and optical methods, as well as the use of magnets and eddy currents. It also demonstrates how the separated materials are transformed into new products.

Tierry Lauren, executive general manager of Recycling at Visy, explained the purpose of the initiative, “Not everyone gets the chance to walk through a recycling facility, but our virtual tour is the next best thing. By giving people the tools to make informed decisions, we can work together to reduce contamination, improve recycling rates, and ultimately contribute to a circular economy where resources are reused and remade instead of wasted.”

While Australians show enthusiasm for recycling, Visy acknowledges the confusion that still exists around what can and cannot be recycled. The virtual tour aims to address this by showing correct recycling practices and their role in keeping materials out of landfill.

Accessible for free on Visy’s website, the tour is intended for individuals, families, schools, and community groups seeking to understand the recycling process and its broader impact. To start exploring, head to the virtual tour on the Visy website here
