The latest print issue of Machinery Matters, the APPMA’s regular supplement published in partnership with PKN and Food & Drink Business, has now hit desks, and is also available online in digital form.

The countdown is on for the southern hemisphere’s leading exhibition for the packaging and processing industry, AUSPACK, which runs from 17-20 May in Melbourne, and expectations are high, with a record number of Australian and international companies represented to showcase their latest innovations.

In the Chairman’s Message, Mark Dingley welcomes the return of exhibitions. He expresses his pleasure and excitement to see events back, as they provide a very important service for industry members. He highlights AUSPACK, and its adjacent events such as the Awards of Excellence and the Leaders Forum, and welcomes the chance to reconnect and re-engage with exhibitors, attendees and sponsors in a few weeks.

In the APPMA News section, we take a look at the recent APPMA Sydney member dinner, which took place on International Women’s Day, and saw some 100 members braving the torrential rain and flooded roads for an evening of networking and assessment.

Member News this edition includes an Aussie-first demonstration of 5G URLLC in robotic palletising by Optus, Ericsson, SICK and Universal Robots; a joint venture between Agito Group and Hilton Food Group; as well as product launches from SMC, Proseal, Thurne-Middleby (represented by Linco Food Systems) and Krones.

In Trends & Tech, we report on the industry outlook of economist Nicki Hutley, who addressed attendees at the APPMA member dinner event on the matter, and while quite upbeat on what’s ahead, warns of the potential brakes on a rebounding economy such as inflation, war and climate catastrophes.

And in our Member Profile section, we take a look iconic Australian beverage company Bickford’s, who recently launched two new PET formats for its premium syrup and juice brands, turning to Sidel to convert its existing aseptic filling line.

Enjoy the read, and a reminder to all APPMA members to submit your product and company news to editor@packagingnews.com.au or contact publisher Lindy Hughson on lindyhughson@yaffa.com.au to discuss your editorial ideas.
