Luciana Pellegrino will serve a second term as president of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), following a unanimous decision by board members at the organisation’s 115th board meeting in Dusseldorf.

The meeting, held during interpack 2026, brought together 50 members from 37 countries and formed part of WPO’s wider participation at the processing and packaging trade fair.

Pellegrino’s re-election covers the 2027–2029 term and comes as the packaging sector faces changes linked to sustainability, regulation, digitalisation, food protection and circular economy requirements. The organisation says packaging is increasingly seen as contributing to sustainability, supply chain resilience, product protection and consumer trust.

In a statement, Pellegrino said, “I am honoured to lead WPO for another term and to work alongside members from so many countries around the world. My guiding principles are a business-driven approach; transparency and governance; collaboration and teamwork; commitment and consistency; continuous learning and improvement; and building strong relationships and partnerships.”

Her second term, beginning 1 January 2027, is expected to continue WPO’s long-term projects and strategic direction.

During her first term (2024–2026), WPO took part in a number of international forums representing the packaging industry, including the World Circular Economy Forum, where it presented the paper ‘Navigating the food and loss paradox’ alongside UNIDO and WUR. The organisation also participated as a panellist at COP28 and COP30.

Pellegrino has been involved in the packaging industry since 1996, when she undertook an experience at Bryce Corporation in the United States. She later became the first woman to hold the WPO presidency.

She has nearly 30 years’ experience with ABRE (Brazilian Packaging Association), where she is executive president, and more than 20 years’ involvement with WPO. Before becoming president, she served as senior vice president of marketing at the organisation.
