Accepting the role, Dossor said he was honoured by the appointment and committed to building on the strategic foundations established under Bigley's leadership.

“It is very humbling and a great honour to be endorsed by my industry peers as the next President of the AIP,” Dossor said.

“I know that myself, the board, the executive and most importantly the AIP team led by Nerida Kelton, are all committed to leading the AIP into a new era.”

He said the Institute's recently developed Strategic Plan would provide the framework for future growth.

“My role will be help support the growth areas and strengthen other areas of the AIP pillars. We will be communicating regularly, and in a very transparent way all that we do, to our individual members, sponsors, association partners and government bodies.”

Looking ahead, Dossor said the industry's technical capability would become even more important as packaging regulation continues to evolve.

“The next generation of packaging professionals are also critical to the continued work required solve the challenges our industry faces today, tomorrow and into the future,” he said.

“The AIP will continue to take the lead in technical packaging training and education for the region and to ensure that all packaging technologists and professionals in the industry have the qualifications to take the lead in this era of change that is coming.”

With extended producer responsibility (EPR) and eco-modulation reforms approaching, Dossor said businesses would need stronger technical packaging expertise.

“Now more than ever, with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and eco-modulation just around the corner, we need to ensure that we have the technical packaging qualifications and competencies within all teams across the region and the AIP are ready to train everyone.”

He added that fit-for-purpose packaging design with the lowest possible environmental impact could no longer be considered an afterthought, and reaffirmed the Institute's independent role in supporting industry, government and allied associations with technical packaging expertise.

AIP executive director Nerida Kelton FAIP welcomed Dossor's appointment, highlighting his four decades in the packaging industry and almost 10 years as an AIP trainer and lecturer.

“Michael has been in the packaging industry for four decades and joined the AIP Education Team as a trainer and lecturer close to 10 years ago. He is as passionate about packaging as the rest of the AIP Executive Team and we all welcome him to the role,” Kelton said.

Reflecting on his presidency, Bigley said one of the highlights of his three-year term had been the continued growth of the AIP's monthly State of Industry webinars, which were established during the Covid-19 pandemic and have since developed into an international industry platform.

“In 2025 alone we saw over 1500 people attend our State of Industry Webinars from over 12 countries and that is remarkable. The library of information that the AIP is now developing from these webinars is astounding,” Bigley said.

He also identified the development of the Institute's Strategic Plan as a key achievement of his presidency, saying it would guide the organisation's priorities in the years ahead.

Bigley thanked the AIP Board, executive team, staff and members for their support during his term, paying particular tribute to Kelton, as well as former presidents Ralph Moyle and Professor Pierre Pienaar for their guidance.
