East Coast Canning has signed a strategic partnership with Sweden-based packaging technology company Meadow to bring the MEADOW KAPSUL resealable aluminium can system to Australia and New Zealand, opening up new applications for cans beyond traditional beverages.

The collaboration will see East Coast Canning supplying printed cans and proprietary MEADOW KAPSUL dispensers, positioning the Australian business as the local conduit for the technology across food and beverage, personal care, home care and other consumer goods categories.

Chris Kelly, co-founder of East Coast Canning, said the company had been tracking the development of the system for several years and saw strong potential in the local market.

Applications already being explored include personal care products such as body wash and shampoo, where Meadow has developed a distinctive “daisy topping crimp” to provide clear non-ingestible visual signalling, as well as pharmaceuticals, sauces and resealable single-serve energy drinks.

Meadow CEO and co-founder Victor Ljungberg said the partnership with East Coast Canning was a key step in scaling the technology globally.

Rather than operating solely as a contract filler, East Coast Canning will focus on supplying the complete MEADOW KAPSUL packaging inputs – including printed cans and the proprietary resealable components – so that existing contract manufacturers and brand owners can integrate the system into their own lines. The company says this model is designed to support scalability and broad market access.

With vertically integrated operations spanning supply chain, printing, filling and packaging consultation, East Coast Canning has positioned itself as a technical and commercial partner for brand owners wanting to transition products into the MEADOW KAPSUL format or design new offerings around the technology.

Aluminium’s established recycling infrastructure and high recovery rates underpin the sustainability proposition. The MEADOW KAPSUL system seeks to build on these credentials by enabling refill and reuse models and by displacing single-use plastic formats in categories where cans have not traditionally played.

The partners say the combination of a widely recycled substrate, resealable functionality and category-specific design cues – such as the daisy crimp for non-food – is intended to help brands meet consumer expectations on usability and eco-friendly packaging, while supporting broader efforts to reduce packaging waste.
