Automation & Robotics Technology (A&RT), a specialist in high-speed robotic automation, has been acquired by a consortium of investors including Foodmach, Packaging Partners, Rob Niggl, and Frank Floriano, former CEO of Aldus Group.

The deal marks a strategic transition for founders Dale Collinson and Mike Urban, who established and led the business over the past 20 years.

A&RT has built a strong reputation in high-speed robotic picking, bespoke automation design, and turnkey engineering solutions, particularly within Australia’s FMCG sector. The company is known for delivering complex automation systems for bakery and frozen food applications, supported by deep expertise in robotics, vision systems, and motion control.

The new ownership group sees significant opportunity to scale A&RT’s capabilities both locally and internationally.

Dale Collinson said the business is well positioned for its next phase of growth.

“A&RT has developed a large catalogue of bespoke and highly specialised automation solutions. With the support of our new shareholders, we see strong potential to productise these solutions for broader local and global markets, while continuing to build on our core engineering capabilities,” he said.

The acquisition also creates strategic alignment with Foodmach, a long-established provider of packaging line automation with a strong presence in the beverage sector.

Phil Biggs, a director at Packaging Partners, said the complementary strengths of the two businesses would unlock new opportunities.

“Foodmach has built a strong position in high-speed beverage applications, while A&RT has deep expertise in bakery and frozen food environments. Together, the businesses can diversify into new sectors and deliver greater value to customers,” he said.

“In addition, Foodmach’s packaging line control software combined with A&RT’s high-speed vision systems creates a powerful, integrated capability.”

Packaging Partners, which has an existing shareholding in Foodmach, played a lead role in structuring the transaction. Geoff Murdoch and Phil Biggs represented Packaging Partners in the deal.

Under the new ownership structure, A&RT will continue to operate independently, with its own board and leadership team. Mike Urban and Dale Collinson will remain in the business, while Dale will also retain an equity stake.

The sale price was not disclosed.
