Packaging and processing technologies aimed at reducing food loss will be a key focus at the Save Food forum, taking place during interpack on 12 May 2026.
The event, organised under the SAVE FOOD initiative, will highlight how packaging solutions can help extend shelf life, reduce transport losses and improve efficiency across the supply chain.
Held in Hall 1, Room 14 from 10:00 to 13:00, the forum will bring together industry, international organisations and institutions for expert talks, panel discussions, awards and networking.
The SAVE FOOD initiative is a partnership between Messe Düsseldorf, the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), working to reduce food loss and waste globally and promote sustainable solutions across the food value chain.
A central feature of the event is the SAVE FOOD Awards Ceremony, recognising approaches and efforts to reduce food loss. Winners of the SAVE FOOD Project competition will also be announced.
Two panel discussions will address key issues. The first will focus on market regulations and the importance of tackling food loss and waste, with contributions from FAO, UNIDO, WPO and Messe Düsseldorf. The second will present best-practice examples from industry and SAVE FOOD initiative members, including packaging and technology applications aimed at reducing food loss.
Nerida Kelton, executive director at the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) and vice president of Sustainability & Save Food, will moderate one of the panel discussions.
The event will conclude with a networking session, with participation limited to support discussion and exchange among attendees.
