Sappi is set to present a range of fibre-based tea envelope packaging solutions at interpack, focusing on paper formats designed to meet performance and sustainability requirements.
The company says tea envelopes play a role in protecting product quality, preserving delicate aromas and delivering the first tactile interaction between brand and consumer, as well as forming an early point of contact in the tea experience.
The portfolio includes crimped envelopes, heat-sealed sachets and translucent paper variants for individually wrapped tea bags. Sappi says visitors can explore a comprehensive range of paper-based envelope solutions designed to meet performance needs and sustainability expectations.
Among the formats on show are uncoated ‘Leine Teapack’ papers for crimped envelopes, engineered for mechanical sealing without adhesives or plastics. According to Sappi, these papers can run at speeds of up to 400 packs per minute.
For heat-sealed applications, Sappi is presenting paper-based materials that provide barriers against moisture, oxygen, grease and aroma, aimed at maintaining product integrity and freshness while ensuring excellent runnability on high-speed packaging lines.
Kerstin Dietze, key account manager paper & packaging solutions at Sappi, says, “Tea envelopes are at the core of both product protection and brand communication. At Interpack, we show how fibre-based solutions can match the performance of conventional materials while enabling a more sustainable approach.”
The company positions mono-material paper solutions as an alternative to multi-material laminates, as regulatory pressure increases ahead of the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), due to come into effect in 2026. Sappi says its paper-based formats are fully recyclable within existing paper waste streams.
Sappi will also feature printability and the natural look and feel of the papers, supporting brand storytelling at point of sale. It says removing plastic overwraps can reduce packaging complexity and environmental impact.
Attendees at interpack can experience the tea packaging innovations at Sappi’s booth in Hall 8a, Booth B35, from 7–13 May, and arrange a meeting with the team on site.
