The AUSPACK Leaders Forum will bring together thought leaders from APCO, Terracycle, Mondelez and Amcor on 18 May, to focus on sustainability and the circular economy.

Moderator Brooke Donnelly, CEO, Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO); and panelists Jean Baillard, GM, TerraCycle, Paul Chatfield, VP Marketing, Mondelez International and Richard Smith, director of Sustainability, Amcor will discuss the subject of Future packaging, recycling and the circular economy.

The group will examine the new regulations coming into effect in Australia, look at ways to adapt to these, and other changing regulatory and consumer needs, and discuss progressive solutions to help Australia minimise its waste.

Key questions to be covered will be:

  • What is the packaging industry’s responsibility when it comes to waste and how is it tracking?
  • What steps can businesses take to shift to a circular economy from design to operational systems?
  • What opportunities for growth and collaboration are out there?
  • How do we change consumer behaviour through packaging recycling messaging?

Panellists in profile: 

Brooke Donnelly has spent her career working in product stewardship, collective impact, recycling and sustainability. In her current role as CEO of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO), Donnelly leads APCO’s strategic direction to ensure effective collaboration between industry, government and consumers to drive significant positive environmental and circular economic activities for Australian communities.

On episode 48 of the PKN Podcast, Donnelly, together with sustainability consultant Dr Helen Lewis, discussed Australia's progress towards the 2025 National Packaging Targets.

Jean Bailliard, is GM of TerraCycle Australia and Zealand, an environmental company which is renowned for collecting and repurposing otherwise non-recyclable post-consumer and post-industrial waste. Through TerraCycle, Bailliard is pioneering a new waste management process which involves manufacturers, retailers, governments and consumers, to create circular solutions for materials that otherwise have no other path than to be recycled.

Paul Chatfield leads the marketing of Mondelēz International’s ANZ product portfolio. With a passion for driving growth through diverse, brand marketing excellence, he has held multiple marketing roles across the fast-moving consumer goods industry, including associate director Everyday Chocolate, Mondelēz ANZ; sales and marketing lead, Vitasoy ANZ and marketing manager, Heinz.

Richard Smith, director of Sustainability, Amcor Flexibles ANZ, has extensive knowledge in innovation and development of flexible plastic packaging and rigid plastic packaging and has authored a number of patents in both rigid and flexible packaging formats.

Family-owned chocolate maker, Haigh’s Chocolates, has opened its new $120 million production, warehouse and online fulfilment facility in South Australia, enabling the company to almost double its chocolate production.

Sydney Brewery says its acquisition of the brewing assets and long-term lease of the White Bay Brewing site in Rozelle, Sydney, will give the brewery capacity to launch new product lines and expand its bar presence.

Lark Distilling Co. has appointed Four Pillars Gin co-founder, Stuart Gregor, as its new managing director and CEO, taking effect from 1 January 2026. He will succeed Satya (Sash) Sharma, who is stepping down after being in the role since May 2023.
