Behn + Bates, a Haver & Boecker company, presented a hygienic new PE packing concept at Auspack 2017.

The form, fill seal (FFS) polyethylene packing concept for powder-type food products is called the Roto-Packer Adams Care-Line.

According to the company, PE plastic bags are considered the most hygienic packing material for highly sensitive food products such as baby food, as the risk of contamination during the manufacturing process of PE film has been significantly reduced.

However, when it comes to filling the PE bags with product, packing machines have struggled to meet very high hygiene standards.

Behn + Bates, a brand under the Haver & Boecker umbrella, developed the idea for the Roto-Packer Adams Care-Line in close collaboration with a key customer.

In parallel with this development process, a PE film manufacturer created a new double-layer gusseted film for optimal product protection.

The new packing technology fills powders into common PE film bags as well as double-layer PE film bags for optimal product protection.

PKN's Lindy Hughson spoke to Haver & Boecker’s CEO Dr Reinhold Festge (pictured below) about the innovation.

"Haver & Boecker established its Australian office in 2012, and since then we've been growing our presence in this market, bringing our innovation and expertise in bulk and industrial packaging directly [rather than through an agent] to our customers," Festge said.

"We're using Auspack to launch the latest development, which we believe has great potential for bulk packaging applications in the Australian manufacturing sector."

Dust build up minimised

The Care-Line's components have been combined in a new system which minimises areas where dust can collect, to ensure better cleaning.

There are no open threads, edges or drill holes in the sectional steel frame, removing any points where product dust can build up.

The inclined edges and rounded corners allow for easy dust removal.

No more contamination

The number of integrated components has been reduced to the minimum needed for proper functioning, and all parts are encased.

There are virtually no machine parts such as screws or nuts that could fall into the product during filling.

The machine also seals PE film bags up to the outer edge and produces edge definition to protect the products in the filled bag from vermin, dirt and deteriorations.
