The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) will launch the SusPAM Sustainable Food Packaging Intervention Tool for Sustainable Food Systems during a webinar on 29 September, the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste.
Developed by UNIDO and Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, SusPAM is a methodology designed to help stakeholders assess the sustainability of packaging interventions in food systems.
The methodology provides a framework for assessing packaging interventions, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. It considers the effects of interventions across the three P’s of People, Planet and Profit, with principles, steps and criteria to assess their feasibility and expected impact.
SusPAM is intended to support interventions that reduce food loss and waste, minimise packaging’s environmental impact and support circular economy principles.
The webinar will feature experts from Wageningen University & Research and UNIDO, alongside representatives from Foundation FSSC and WPO, who will discuss the methodology and its application globally.
The webinar will be moderated by Nerida Kelton FAIP, vice-president sustainability & save food at WPO. Panellists are Eelke Westra, manager partnerships at Wageningen University & Research; Aldin Hilbrands, chief executive officer at FSSC; and Ali Badarneh, division chief at UNIDO.
