Businesses in the food, beverage and packaging sectors are invited to host an intern from the University of Melbourne’s Master of Food and Packaging Innovation (MFPI) program. By offering a placement, companies can access emerging talent, gain new perspectives on innovation, and help develop the next generation of professionals shaping Australia’s food and packaging industries.

Developed 11 years ago as a joint initiative between the University of Melbourne and the Australasian Institute of Packaging (AIP), the MFPI combines food science, entrepreneurship and packaging design. Students benefit from the expertise of AIP technical lecturers, site visits to operating plants, and structured internships that link academic learning with practical experience.

Through the MFPI FOOD90036 internship, students undertake up to 200 hours of work on a company project, with timing and scope tailored to suit both the business and the student. Interns contribute to real-world challenges while gaining vital workplace experience that supports their transition into professional roles across the sector.

Many graduates have gone on to build successful careers in packaging, food technology and product development roles. Each year, students seek host organisations eager to collaborate and mentor future industry talent.

Companies interested in hosting a student intern can contact the Australasian Institute of Packaging (AIP) at info@aipack.com.au.
