Australasian Institute of Packaging (AIP) will run two mini training courses at ProPak Philippines 2026: Mini Training Course 1, Unboxing Accessibility: Easy to Open, Reclose, Grip & Handle Packaging, and Mini Training Course 2, Steps to Design Sustainable Packaging: Guidelines for Primary, Secondary & Tertiary Packaging.

Mini Training Course 1 will take place on Wednesday 4 February 2026, from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, with arrival from 10.15 am, at the World Trade Centre, Metro Manila, Pasay City, Hidalgo Room, Mezzanine Floor, alongside ProPak Philippines. The paid course will focus on packaging accessibility and ease of use, including opening, closing, gripping and handling. It will cover how packaging design affects consumer interaction, with particular consideration for people with reduced strength or dexterity, including those with disability, chronic pain, injury or illness, and the ageing population. The course will also discuss how inaccessible packaging can create barriers to everyday tasks such as meal preparation and independent living.

Mini Training Course 2 will take place on the same day, from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm, at the World Trade Centre, Hidalgo Room (2nd Floor). The course will focus on applying Sustainable Packaging Guidelines (SPGs) to the design of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging, covering environmental impact, functional and commercial requirements, shelf life, recycling and recovery, regulatory considerations, and potential unintended consequences of packaging design decisions. Cost, price sensitivity, regional focus and competitiveness will also be discussed.

Both courses will be led by Nerida Kelton, vice president sustainability & save food at WPO and executive director at AIP, and Prof Pierre Pienaar, education director at AIP and immediate past president at WPO.

Participants will receive a certificate of course completion, points towards the Certified Packaging Professional (CPP) designation, and access to guidelines and resources.
