A redesigned Birds Eye frozen vegetable pack that tackles one of consumers' biggest frustrations has won gold in the 2026 Save Food Packaging Design category.
Simplot's Birds Eye Frozen Single Vegetables 825g range introduces a block-bottom bag incorporating Peel&Seal resealable tape and 50 per cent recycled-content polyethylene. The redesign represents the brand's first significant packaging change for the core range in more than two decades and was driven by consumer concerns around product spillage and food waste.
The resealable format allows consumers to roll the bag down to the remaining product and reseal it between uses, helping prevent vegetables spilling into freezers while encouraging portion control and extending usability across multiple meals. By addressing both product protection and consumer behaviour, the redesign aims to reduce avoidable household food waste.
IPE Pack and Technology received silver for AUSTLON SG Self Sealing Shrink Bag, Kraft Heinz Australia took bronze for the Heinz Taste Tap Dispenser, while Pinnacle Packaging received a Highly Commended award for its Paper Food Tub and Lid System.
The Save Food Packaging Design category recognises innovations that minimise food waste from paddock to plate through packaging that protects, preserves and extends shelf life.
