In light of the company starting to build its folding carton business, IVE Group has joined the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) in a move it says is part of its environmental, social and governance strategy.

APCO is leading the development of a circular economy for packaging in Australia, and IVE says with an extensive packaging offering already within its group, it recognises its responsibility to champion sustainable packaging. It says it will achieve this from design to production process, through to recycling initiatives and landfill reduction.

IVE has committed to working in partnership with its clients to help APCO work towards its 2025 targets. Those targets include 100 per cent reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging, and 70 per cent of plastic packaging being recycled or composted. The targets also include 50 per cent of average recycled content included in packaging, and the phase out of problematic and unnecessary single-use plastic.

Last year IVE entered the fibre-based packaging sector with the acquisition of JacPak in Melbourne, and is currently creating a mirror site in Silverwater NSW, with the two plants tasked to produce $150m of folding carton packaging a year, from what IVE says is Australia’s $800m a year folding carton segment.
