Result Group has partnered with Leibinger and Fenner Conveyors to demonstrate how continuous inkjet (CIJ) technology can overcome one of industrial printing’s more challenging applications – coding onto uncured rubber.

Filmed at Fenner Conveyors’ Melbourne facility, the collaboration showcases how a tailored, application-led approach to coding and marking can deliver measurable improvements in uptime and production reliability.

Fenner Conveyors, part of the Michelin Group, required a solution to mark bonding layers on uncured rubber – a substrate known for its heat, movement and flexible surface, all of which complicate print adhesion and consistency. Rather than adopting a standardised approach, the project focused on testing multiple ink formulations to identify the best fit for the application.

“The range of Leibinger inks was exceptional,” said Jeremy Van Kaathoven, extrusion manager at Fenner. “We tested multiple inks, received results within two weeks, and now enjoy five years of maintenance-free operation – less cleaning, less downtime, and higher productivity.”

At the centre of the solution is the Leibinger IQJET CIJ printer, designed for continuous operation in demanding environments. Its Plug & Print system and sealed nozzle technology prevent ink from drying out, eliminating common issues such as clogging and frequent cleaning interventions.

For manufacturers, this translates to fewer interruptions, lower maintenance requirements and more consistent coding quality. The system also delivers up to 30 per cent lower total cost of ownership and reduced solvent consumption, supporting both efficiency and sustainability objectives.

According to Result Group, the project underscores the importance of close collaboration and application expertise when deploying coding and marking solutions.

“As Leibinger's local partner, we work closely with customers to tailor coding and marking solutions to their operations,” said Michael Dossor, group general manager at Result Group.

The outcome for Fenner Conveyors is a more reliable, low-maintenance coding process with fewer disruptions to production. More broadly, the project highlights how advances in CIJ technology, combined with application-specific optimisation, are enabling manufacturers to improve performance in even the most demanding production environments.
