Australian-based BioPak, a global provider of sustainable packaging solutions, has won the 2024 WorldStar Award in the Packaging Materials and Components category for its Aqueous BioCups.

BioPak says that Aqueous BioCups are made with FSC-certified paper sourced from responsibly managed plantations. They are lined with aqueous technology, which the company describes as utilising a water-based dispersion coating, which is applied like paint and absorbed into the paper fibres of the cup. This process aims to significantly reduce the amount of material needed, while still providing the same leak and grease-proof benefits as other coatings like traditional PE plastic. Aqueous BioCups are certified home compostable to Australian (AS5810) and European (NF-T51-800) standards.

Aqueous BioCups are currently available in single and double wall in a variety of sizes. BioPak says it will be transitioning all its BioCups ranges across to this new innovative water-based coating technology throughout 2024.

Since 1970, the WorldStar Packaging Awards has been celebrating the continual advancement in packaging design and technology, and showcasing packaging excellence from around the globe. In 2024, WorldStar attracted 435 entries from 41 countries, Australia and New Zealand were in the top five winning countries.
