The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) will be hosting a virtual tour of BioPak's Compost Connect network for its members, on 8 June.

The tour of the Compost Connect network, which connects food service businesses with industrial composters, will feature industrial composting sites and chefs using the service, to help visitors gain an understanding of how composting fits into the circular economy.

During the tour Gary Smith, CEO, BioPak, Richard Fine MAIP, founder, BioPak, and Lachlan Jeffries, MD, Jeffries will be available to answer questions about Compost Connect, and how to get involved.

According to Compost Connect, food production and waste account for 26 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions and food waste breaking down in landfill emits methane, a greenhouse gas that is 26 times more harmful than CO2.

Reducing food waste by composting can be an effective strategy to combat global warming by diverting organic waste from landfill, it says.

Compost Connect, which was launched by BioPak last year, ensures that not only food scraps in the hospitality sector are composted, but compostable packaging too.
