The doors will close at Auspack 2017 today, after four full days of networking, learning, and buying at the Sydney Showgrounds.

Anne-Marie Mina, organiser of Auspack, said 2017 has seen the biggest number of exhibitors and brands on display, in the largest space ever occupied.

"This show saw the introduction of a much larger number of immersive experiences on site," she said.

"We also saw more AR signage, digital signage, and VR experiences provided by such exhibitors as HMPS, FibreKing, and Heat and Control."

Mina said there was also significant growth in the processing side, including the successful launch of Processing Day.

"Exhibitors have been extremely happy, including over 100 international exhibitors who are launching their products in the Australian market at the show," she said.

"Such broad exhibitor offerings gives visitors a wide choice, enabling them to see the latest global technologies in their sector and find the perfect solution for their business."

International exhibitor Schur Star Systems, a packaging systems company from Denmark, attracted a lot of interest in its flexible packaging solutions.

Many different flexible pouch sizes and styles, in different print and laminate structures, can be run through the Schur Star packaging system with quick changeover times.

For example, changing from a 400-millimetre wide pouch to a 100mm wide pouch takes just five minutes.

The system has application across a range of industries including fresh produce and meat.

UK-based Woolcool showcased its range of eco-friendly, insulated packaging products.

The packaging, which is used for both food and pharmaceuticals, is made from coarse sheep’s belly wool, which is essentially 'waste wool', and has 25 per cent Australian content.

Woolcool packaging sits in a carton, enveloping chilled or frozen product.

The carton is chilled down and ice packs added on top.

Woolcool is guaranteed to keep product at less than five degrees celsius for 24 hours or more, and one of its biggest applications is the online grocery trade.

The livestreaming videos on Auspack’s Facebook page and PKN's Youtube page have been showcasing suppliers talking about the benefits of their solutions.

Food & Drink Business

Food & Drink Business editor Kim Berry's take on the big news stories this week, and what caught her eye overseas. How will the Future Made in Australia Act actually be delivered? Shanghai trials traffic light labelling, and Solar Food, making protein out of (virtually) nothing at all, opens its commercial scale facility (that's it in the pic).

Food Frontier’s industry leading annual alternative proteins conference, AltProteins 24, is on in Melbourne on 10 October, with early bird tickets now available.

CSIRO has released a new report Responsible Innovation at CSIRO detailing how the national science agency is designing and delivering leading-edge research to benefit everyone.
